  • A good golf shoe will give you solid support, comfort and the stability you need to “grip it and rip it”.
  • Fit is obviously an important factor when buying golf shoes. Make sure to wear the same socks you golf in when trying shoes. The middle of the golf shoe should feel slightly tighter than normal to give you support while swinging. Your toes should have a little wiggle room, but don’t leave more than a half inch of space between your big toe and the tip of the shoe.
  • Virtually all golf shoes now have plastic “soft spikes”. Metal spikes used to be common but have been banned at almost all golf courses unless you play at the professional level. Unless your name is Tiger, make sure you buy plastic spikes.
  • A waterproofing element is important to consider. A waterproof shoe may cost a little more, but it worth it if you find yourself in wet or muddy conditions.
  • You’ll find both leather and synthetic options available. The best bet is a golf shoe with both leather AND synthetic elements. Leather uppers give the best support. A completely synthetic shoe won’t allow air in to circulate around your foot; you may find other golfers giving you a wide berth in the locker room.
