• Believe it or not, how you lace your shoes can prevent injuries, foot pain and other foot problems. There are many general lacing tips, but if you have existing foot problems or are buying shoes for a specific sport, make sure you learn about the proper lacing techniques for that shoe/issue.

• Loosen the laces as you slip into the shoes.

• Always begin lacing the shoes at the eyelets closest to your toes and pull one set of eyelets at a time.

• The more eyelets a shoe has the more you will be able to customize it’s fit.

• It’s possible to compensate for foot issues using different lacing techniques.

• The conventional way of lacing – crisscross to the top of the shoe works best for the majority of people and majority of shoes.

• Straight bar lacing is popular as well – the laces go horizontally across the shoe instead of crossing each other. Straight Bar Lacing only works correctly on shoes with even numbers of eyelet pairs (eg. 8 pairs = 16 eyelets).

• There are over 30 different ways to lace your shoes and most are purely a fashion statement!
